Additives Influence on the Properties of Asphalt Binders: A Case Study

This study investigated the impact of using modified bitumen binders and additives to enhance physical characteristics asphalt mixtures at high, medium, low temperatures. Both basic rheological bituminous were tested by adding Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene, a type thermoplastic elastomer, as chemical additive various fractions (3.5%, 4%, 4.5%), two kinds Bitumen: Kraton styrene block copolymers Europrene (SOL T 6302). The following methods used test properties binders: needle penetration, ductility, softening point, resistance hardening when exposed heat air, Pressure Aging Vessel dynamic (PAV), Shear Rheometer (DSR), Bending Beam (BBR), direct tension test, storage stability. results showed that best concentration observed 4% additives, while penetration Bitumen was reduced 27.2% 30.3% SOL T6302, respectively. influence 4.0% decreased bulk specific gravity 2.395.
